Summary

I expected to improve my English skills before I came to Canada. Also, I was looking forward to communicating with people from various countries. After I came to Canada, I faced a language barrier many times. When I ordered a combo in A&W, a staff served completely different food. Also, when a bus driver told me something, I could not understand what they said. Therefore, I sometimes could not hear important information about bus schedules. In the foodbank, users ordered me some stuff that they needed but I missed hearing their words and I passed the wrong things many times. At first, I was depressed when I missed hearing or did not speak English well. In addition, I actually sometimes felt stressed to speak English.

However, I learned from those mistakes and thought about what I needed to do to try not to repeat the same mistakes. In the foodbank case, I asked coworkers what users said and tried to remember unknown words. Fortunately, coworkers always helped me so I could think positively without giving up to work there. Then, I gradually did not worry about my mistakes. I feel nervous even now when I speak English to others, but I enjoy communicating with people more in English. I think it is important to keep learning new things and have a positive mind if I faced serious problems. By doing that, I would solve them easily. I felt my growth from this studying abroad. Also, I noticed that someone who helped me always was with me such as my coworkers, my friends, my teachers, and my host family. I appreciate them a lot. Thank you so much!!
